NetZeroPASS: Revolutionising Housing Assessments for a Sustainable & Inclusive Future

Chamberlains Aqua [& Energy] Systems Limited (CAESL), in collaboration with Microlink PC Limited and funded by Innovate UK, is proud to announce the successful completion of the feasibility study and the development of Prototype Alpha for the NetZeroPASS scheme. This ground-breaking project is focused on transforming housing assessments to enhance sustainability and support vulnerable groups, including the elderly and individuals with disabilities.

Understanding the Need:

In England, the significant impact of inadequate housing on health, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and residents in care houses and council homes, is a pressing concern. With millions of households grappling with housing issues and the NHS facing substantial costs due to poor housing, the urgency for a comprehensive solution is clear.

Aims and Objectives:

The NetZeroPASS project aims to improve housing for vulnerable groups by:

  • Analysing energy and water consumption in UK households, focusing on the elderly and those with special needs.
  • Identifying areas for efficiency improvements.
  • Offering tailored recommendations to households.
  • Supporting policy-making with data insights.
  • Promoting sustainable practices and helping to achieve net-zero targets.

Project Milestones and Achievements:

  • Successful Completion of Prototype Alpha: Innovate UK has confirmed the successful completion of the feasibility study and the development of the Alpha version of our web-based application.
  • Key Findings and Outcomes: Through detailed analyses of energy and water consumption patterns, we have identified significant opportunities to enhance efficiency without compromising the comfort and well-being of vulnerable populations. The application considers both (1) Building characteristics and (2) Human behaviour to provide tailored recommendations that align with the UK’s net-zero objectives.

Next Steps: Development of Prototype Beta:

With Prototype Alpha completed, we are now moving into the next phase—developing Prototype Beta of the web-based application. This prototype will focus on leveraging Advanced Machine Learning (AML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) to assess energy and water efficiency in housing whilst providing human-centred, inclusive solutions. We will also expand the tool’s capabilities in terms of user experience.

As we progress to Prototype Beta, we remain committed to creating sustainable and inclusive housing solutions that benefit both individuals and society.
